Fondue Monks: cow killers

Houston’s best funk-rockers Fondue Monks barely escaped with their lives this past weekend after their van hit a herd of stray cows on the way back from a show in Austin early Sunday morning. The guys weren’t hurt, thankfully, but their van—and a few cows—definitely took some damage.
You can get more information on the accident, including photos and some video, at the band’s website.
In other Monks’ news, the band has a live DVD (recorded at The Meridian) coming out in the near future. The band is known for their great live sets, spot-on covers, and extended jams, so this should be quite the treat. More details as they come.
Written by David A.
"The Ultimate Thrill Ride" from the Drivers Perspective

“We are lucky to be alive!!! It was the ultimate thrill ride”¦ After hitting the cows, we were racing uncontrollably at warp speed into total darkness ”¦ No brakes, no lights, no steering, throttle stuck at 60 plus miles per hour, a truly terrifying experience”¦The engine finally died and the van rolled to a stop about a mile from the point of bovine impact”¦ Yep, we are lucky to be alive”¦ The investigating officer said that the Bastrop County Sheriff’s department has lost three cruisers, in recent months, to accidents involving escaped livestock on the roadways”¦ Seems to me that Texas cattle owners should put a bit more effort into maintaining their fences”¦ Better fences may prevent future fatalities to both human and bovine alike”¦ And finally, the result of poor fence maintenance on Texas roadways has left one Texas Funk band in need of a new van”¦” Chris Harkness

The Fondue Monks’ Speeding Van vs. a Herd of Cattle

Cheeseburgers Al Fresco: The Fondue Monks’ Speeding Van vs. a Herd of Cattle
Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 04:28:39 PM

Bands have van wrecks on the road all the time. Most are just expensive and time-consuming pains in the ass.
Few, however, are as strange as the one that Houston’s own Fondue Monks were just involved in over the weekend.
Monks manager Chris Harkness reported that he was driving the band’s van with band bassist Rozz Zamorano and singer Denver Courtney aboard. It was 4 a.m., and the band was headed back to Houston after playing the Speakeasy in Austin, and they were barreling down Highway 290 when a herd of cattle seemingly materialized in the road.
Harkness reports that he hit several of the beasts, killing two of them. The van sustained fairly extensive damage, but luckily none of the Monks were hurt.
Pics of the damaged van and totaled heifers can be seen on Fondue Monks website - http://www.fonduemonks.com. -- John Nova Lomax

Fondue Monks played FOX Rox on the Houston FOX affiliate, channel 26, early Friday morning. The band rolled up to the FOX 26 studio before the sun rose and staggered in, eyes half open, to perform a suprisingly energetic rendition of "Breath It In". The Monks would like to thank Ruben Dominguez (FOX Rox host) and all the staff at Fox 26 for this opportunity.
Click this link to see the segment: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/pages/Entertainment/Detail?contentId=4290622&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=7.1.1
